Termbase creation and management

If user reviews, support tickets or other metrics reveal some frustration or low engagement, a content localization audit can help your company identify the cause(s) for this discontent. In addition to a review of your existing French content across UI, marketing, product and support materials, the audit checks whether the messaging is adapted to your audience and goals. You’ll receive a detailed report and/or presentation with recommendations for improving your French market performance.

The goal of French market research is to help your company understand the unique characteristics of the French market. For instance, this might include researching specific regulations, building a competitor benchmark or going through forums and reviews to flag your users’ pain points. You’ll receive a detailed report and/or presentation with the results of the research. Please note that I don’t provide legal advice. For regulatory compliance, you may also need support from a French lawyer.

Companies that choose gender-inclusive translation make sure that they address their target audience as directly as possible. French has traditionally used the masculine as default, but sociolinguistic research shows that this makes women, girls and non-binary people feel excluded, which is something forward-thinking brands work to prevent. I’ll help you build a gender-inclusive language strategy tailored to your brand voice and audience, and I’ll integrate this strategy into your French guidelines, including a training session with Q&A for your French-speaking team.

Style guide creation and management

A style guide is a critical asset to ensure consistency and quality in your French translations. It typically includes guidelines on the tone of voice, key terms, grammar preferences, formatting rules and gender-inclusive rules. Based on your existing French content (if any), I’ll create a concise and clear style guide that can be used as a reference for all in-house and external French speakers, including sales and SEO teams. I’ll work with you to onboard these teams in the process. I’m also available to regularly update the style guide based on teams’ feedback and translation reviews.

Alongside the Style Guide, the termbase (aka glossary) is a complementary building brick in your French voice toolkit. It’s typically a table that provides a definition and a French term for product features, taglines and terminology, including items that should remain in English. It’s also easily exportable into a translation tool. I’ll help you build and maintain this French termbase to ensure a consistent and efficient experience for your French audience.
